For a long time I hunted down the Emerald Demon...for a long time I was lost and finally found myself with little resources. M power alone was only so much. I needed a team, a tribe, a band of people who shared the same ideals as myself. Slowly, my broken and defeated body left the Realm of the Emerald Demon...it left the only home I had ever known.
I worked odd jobs, did small tricks with my magic, and that landed me a bag of gold and a place on a ship set to sail anywhere but this place of death and fire. That was how I ended up in Ambuse. The boat was a scam, and I was bound, y gold was stolen, Rakesh lashed out and killed a few men. I was about to be hung and gutted along with my lion if she had not stepped in. Suddenly these ruthless men of no honor and no law stopped in their tracks. They bowed away from this woman...was she...elf?
No, she was something else. Mostly elven but with features of a human. She was a halfling...and a powerful one if a bunch of armed men went running away like mice scurrying from a cat. Speaking of cats, the winged one on her shoulder...it interested me. The only winged felines I have ever seen are the offspring of our Deity, Erami---Rakesh's mother. This thing was beautiful, small but proud, and like the woman it belonged to, I sensed much power and a strong bond.
The woman freed me, she broke my chains, and she warned me about the city. It was indeed without law, without order, and only the strong would survive. If I got lucky, I might just join a band, get hired out for work, maybe have something of a semi-honest life. She may not have wanted to hear it at the time but I told her of my plight, the loss of ym people, and my need for vengeance. I told her of my need to return, of my need for power...and asked her would she not want the same revenge if her heart was shattered so? I don't know why I spewed these feelings to her, I don't know why I thought she might want to hear, but something struck her in that moment...my chains were returned to me, and I was nearly dragged to the largest Temple in the city. There inside were men with skin that was tan, but streaks of ashy-white as if they wore chalk paint.
All of them were brutes, barbarians. Their steps either made too much sound or no sound at all. All of them had the look of those who had tasted blood and yearned for more, yet they bowed as the woman walked down the hall, chanting and murming praises to her. She was their Queen!
"Lady Ambuse!" they shouted, only wanting to see her gaze. Finally, in a private chamber I was sat on a chair, the lady stalking around me, eyeing me, testing me in some way or another...perhaps sizing me up, perhaps wondering how much I could sell for...no...now I know that, that was not true. Either way, she asked me if I would give anything for vengeance, to which I replied yes. Then she asked if I was willing to die for what I believed...and again, the answer was yes. Finally she asked me if I would follow behind a leader were I bound to service in which I again answer yes...and my chains were once again broken and fell to the floor. I watched the hellfire swirl about her as she said: "Then bow down to your new leader and Queen. You're in the White Scars now."
